Best Bike Split Ambassador, Txomin Juaristi, has been racing time trials for years. "I like having certainty about how many watts I should produce at every moment to execute an effective time trial," he says. That search for certainty is exactly what drew him to the platform, and it is exactly what he has found.

For a time trialist, this matters in a way that is different from most cycling disciplines. There is no drafting, no tactical racing, no responding to moves from other riders. The entire race is an exercise in self-management, in distributing a finite amount of energy as efficiently as possible across a course that punishes both over-effort and under-effort. The Results: Racing to a Top-5 National Finish

He has used the pacing plan in every time trial he has raced over the past three years. The most significant result came at the 2024 Spanish National Time Trial Championships, where he finished fifth. On a hilly 33-kilometre course near Madrid against a field that included professional riders, executing a precise, course-specific pacing strategy was not just useful. It was the difference between a race well-ridden and one lost to inefficiency.

"It allows me to approach races with a clear plan and more confidence, knowing exactly how to distribute my effort," he says. That confidence is not just psychological. It is grounded in the knowledge that the plan he is following has accounted for the variables that most riders are guessing at, the aerodynamics, the rolling resistance, the wind, and the grade changes that determine how hard any given segment of a course actually is.

Without Best Bike Split, he says, his preparation would be "much more based on feeling and less precise, without a clear pacing strategy adapted to the course." For a time trialist operating at the national championship level, that imprecision is not an acceptable margin.
